# Sub-Zero service in Neptune Beach

> Independent Sub-Zero refrigeration service in Neptune Beach, Florida, where full marine exposure meets heavy tree cover and small-lot cottage kitchens.

ZIP 32266. About 0.3 miles to the Atlantic — Near-ocean. Marine exposure identical to its neighbours, on smaller lots with heavy canopy that keeps salt on hardware longer.
Landmarks: Atlantic Beach, Isle of Palms.

Neptune Beach is the smallest of the three beach cities and the one where we are
most careful about what we claim. Its marine exposure is straightforward: about
a third of a mile from the Atlantic for most of the city, with the same onshore
wind and the same chloride-laden air as Atlantic Beach immediately north and
Jacksonville Beach immediately south.

## What we will not take on

Being a one-line shop means being specific about the edges of the work, and this
is as good a place as any to set them out.

We service Sub-Zero refrigeration: built-in cabinets, integrated columns,
undercounter units, ice makers and wine storage. We do not service cooking
equipment, dishwashers, ventilation or laundry, and we do not take other brands.
When somebody calls about the range in the same kitchen, we say so on the phone
rather than sending a technician out to look at it.

There are also faults we will diagnose and then hand back. If a cabinet is still
inside the manufacturer's original coverage, that is usually the route worth
taking, and we will say so before you spend money with us. If you want work
carried out under a manufacturer program, contact the manufacturer directly —
we are an independent shop and there is no manufacturer program behind us. If a
component has been superseded and no longer exists in a supply chain we can
reach, we will tell you the part is gone rather than fit something close and
hope.

And we do not put pattern parts into a sealed system or a control position. On
equipment of this value a part that is nearly right is just a second failure
with a delay attached to it.

None of that shortens a visit. It means the estimate you get describes work we
can stand behind afterwards.

## The salt side is not ambiguous

Nothing about the water situation softens the air. Neptune Beach sits in the
same marine band as its neighbours, and a condenser here loads on the same
schedule as one in Atlantic Beach.

Marine aerosol is chloride carried as droplets too fine to see. It lands on the
fin pack, holds moisture there because salt is hygroscopic, and turns ordinary
household lint into a bonded mat that a vacuum rides over. Underneath, aluminium
fin and copper tube sit in contact with a salt electrolyte, and the fin starts
losing material at the leading edge — the white or pale-green bloom we photograph
on most first visits within half a mile of the water.

Three to four coil cleanings a year is the plan for the streets nearest the
ocean here. Further back, twice is generally enough. Neither number comes out of
a manual; both come out of what these coils look like when we open them.

## Older cottages, mature trees

Much of Neptune Beach is smaller-lot housing with a good deal of established
tree cover, and the canopy has an effect worth knowing about. Shade keeps a
house cooler and it also keeps salt on hardware longer, because rain that would
rinse an exposed surface never reaches a sheltered one with the same force. On
tree-covered lots we find corrosion concentrated at hinge pins, fastener heads
and fan shrouds while the fin pack looks better than expected.

The canopy also drops organic debris. Pollen in spring and leaf litter through
autumn both end up at a toe grille that sits a few inches off the floor, which
is why undercounter and outdoor units in this part of the beaches want a shorter
grille-check interval than their kitchens do.

Older cottage kitchens bring the usual retrofit issue: a built-in fitted into an
opening enlarged as far as the framing allowed, with the clearance around the
grille trimmed to make it fit. A compartment that cannot exhaust recycles its own
hot air and loses the last few degrees on a hot afternoon. We measure that
clearance before we measure anything else, because if the opening is wrong every
other reading is contaminated.

## Storms

About sixty-eight thunderstorm days a year fall on this coast. Control boards
degrade from repeated surge exposure rather than one dramatic event, and the
symptoms are intermittent: a fan running at the wrong time, a display that
resets, an alarm that will not clear. We check what the board is being told
before we condemn the board.

## Booking

Tell us what the cabinet is doing and roughly when it started. You get a written
finding, a written estimate before any part is ordered, genuine OEM parts, and
an independent shop that services Sub-Zero refrigeration and nothing else. Our
technicians are EPA Section 608 certified for refrigerant handling.
